    Do you want to join Canada’s largest living history museum and work with over 55,000 artifacts and 183 historic buildings? Then Heritage Park’s Curator of Exhibits role may be for you!

    Under the direction of the Chief Curator, the Curator of Exhibits will be responsible for performing a variety of duties associated with the planning, designing, implementation, and preservation of permanent and temporary buildings and exhibits at Heritage Park Historical Village.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Recommends improvement and restoration projects. This includes researching, planning, designing, and evaluation of permanent and temporary exhibits.
    • Collaborates with the Chief Curator and Curator of Collections to establish priorities for the conservation of historic buildings and exhibit improvements
    • Liaises with Facilities and Maintenance on ongoing exhibit and building projects
    • Leads the team on addressing the historical accuracy of the Park’s built environment with conservation and preservation at the forefront
    • Works with Manager, Interpretation and Curator of Collections to evaluate the public programming needs within historic spaces
    • Advises Park staff on historically appropriate replicas/solutions
    • Researches and ensures accuracy of historical exhibits
    • Research and assess costs with respect to collections maintenance
    • Maintains records and database regarding exhibit preservation and conditions
    • Supervises curatorial assistants with the Curator, Collections.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Education and Experience:

    • Minimum completion of post-secondary education in Museum Studies, Canadian History, architectural design or related fields. Masters’ degree or additional relevant qualifications encouraged.
    • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of architectural conservation and collections management software considered an asset
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of job-related experience preferred.


    • Detail oriented with strong guest experience philosophy
    • Enthusiastic and creative person with a high standard for cultural heritage and material culture preservation.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
    • Knowledge and research skills relevant to built heritage and material culture
    • Ability to create exhibit designs and drawings an asset.
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and computer skills. Experience with FileMakerPro, Microsoft 365, Photoshop, considered assets.

    Hours of Work/working conditions:

    • This job may require occasional heavy lifting and work in dusty environments.
    • The standard hours for this position are 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
