    Hiring Range: $17.44 - $20.49 hourly

    Job Summary

    The Assistant Museum Curator - Education reports to the Curator of Historic Sites and is a full-time, benefited position working approximately 40 hours per week. Their primary function is coordinating activities and administering programming including but not limited to group and school tours, living history, special events, virtual initiatives, and public outreach. They will develop inclusive educational and interpretive programs to engage a diverse range of museum visitors. Responsibilities include: researching, developing, scheduling, and implementing on-site, outreach, and virtual programming/events in support of the Museum’s educational mission; collaborating on new initiatives with school and internal stakeholders; coordinating private tours and group visits to the museum system; providing educational input to exhibits, special events, the acquisitions committee, and other museum activities; managing inventories of educational collections, props, and equipment; and preparing invoices, surveys, and tracking attendance statistics for general visitation, events, fieldtrips, and groups.

    Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

    • Bachelors degree gained through a four-year college/university academic program or specialized technical training of equivalent length.
    • Two years of related experience required - three or more years of related experience desired.
    • Experience implementing interpretive and educational programming.
    • Basic knowledge of research techniques and historic method.
    • Experience working with and coordinating volunteers.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex and occasionally difficult historical topics utilizing dynamic 1st and 3rd person interpretive techniques.
    • Demonstrates understanding of Educational Curriculum Planning and standards, experience working with Colorado Curriculum Standards desired.
    • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
    • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, experience with Past Perfect Museum Software and Adobe Creative Cloud desired.
    • Knowledge of Greeley, Weld County, and Colorado history preferred.
    • Knowledge and functional familiarity of historic trades, lifeways, and skills.
    • Experience with Point of Sales systems, basic accounting, and cash handling.
    • Spanish/English Bilingual desired.

    Essential Functions: Ability to:

    • Effectively communicate with citizens, teachers and other school officials, contracted presenters, volunteers, and staff on the phone, in person, or electronically.
    • Develop and maintain positive proactive relationships with other city departments, outside vendors, programming partners, and educational institutions.
    • Research, develop, implement, and perform in virtual and in-person public programs, classes, and tours for all ages.
    • Direct part-time employees, seasonal employees and volunteers in a variety of work tasks.
    • Collaborate with Communications & Engagement Department to verify event and operating information, edit promotional materials, discuss museum calendar and marketing needs.
    • Follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and procedures.
    • Effectively implement Museum best practices as it relates to handling and storing education objects.
    • Help ensure Greeley Museums continue to strive for diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion in programming and public interactions by serving the cognitive, physical, and social/emotional needs of diverse audiences.

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

    • Frequent and heavy interaction with museum visitors
    • Work is primarily performed on an outdoor 8-acre site in a variety of weather conditions ranging from adverse heat to snowy cold conditions.
    • May be required to move, bend, twist, and stoop in performance of job duties
    • Stamina sufficient to move for long periods of time
    • Must be comfortable working in historical clothing
    • Vision enough to preform job duties
    • Hearing and speech enough to effectively communicate with site visitors in person through presenting history programs and answering questions for group size ranging from 1 – 100 people
