FARM PIG
Purpose:Members of the FARM PIG (FARM, for short) share an interest in historical agriculture: i.e., the husbandry of domestic animals and plants for the production of food and/or fiber, primarily in the pre-petroleum era. Historical agriculture comprises a skill set that took thousands of years to develop, but which is rapidly being lost in modern society. The preservation and perpetuation of these endangered skills is the primary purpose of FARM. Abiding by the belief that “We Are All Farmers”—that we descend from people who cultivated the land and that agriculture inspired art and necessitated other trades—FARM encourages collaboration with other PIGs to celebrate the “culture” in “agriculture.” FARM also encourages informed and ethical stewardship of land, animals and natural resources within a historical framework. Note: FARM is not an acronym; rather, the letters are capitalized to emphasize that historical agriculture is the source and center of ALHFAM.
