Historic Site Interpreter-Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm-Olathe, KS

    Engage general visitors and organized tour groups in hands-on, living history activities at the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site for daily programming and special events.  Assist with preparation, planning, set-up, and take-down, of program materials for daily activities and special events and handle admissions/reception and gift shop duties.   May assist in feeding and maintaining livestock.


    • As a historic site interpreter you will:
      • Interpret and portray the life, work and activities of an 1860s farm family, and engage visitors in those experiences.
      • Learn 19th century historical processes to demonstrate for visitors, and involve visitors in those processes.  Examples:  quilting, sewing, wood stove cooking, gardening, carpentry, blacksmithing, planting and harvesting field crops with hand tools.
      • Assemble and check the required supplies prior to program delivery.
      • Offer focused educational programs for children and adults, on and off-site.
      • Assist visitors in safely entering and exiting the site stagecoaches.
      • Adhere to period clothing guidelines.
      • Work in the gift shop, accept admissions and aid rental clients
    Experience & Education: High school diploma or GED.

    Position starts at $10 per hour.  Interpreters work 20-40 hours per week, Wednesday thru Sunday, March 19-October 30th.  Low cost housing available.
