Seeking well-rounded person to assume the safe operation of Hanford Mills Museum’s late 19th/early 20th century sawmill, gristmills, woodworking machines, waterwheel, water turbine and steam power plant. Applicant must have: mechanical aptitude and strong problem solving skills; experience with or the ability to adapt skill set to the operation and maintenance of water and steam-powered flat belt-driven power transfer systems; commitment to the preservation of historic buildings, equipment, artifacts and landscapes; and the ability to perform tasks that require physical activity, standing/walking for long periods on varying surfaces, inside and outside, in a variety of conditions. Strong applicants also have some working knowledge of milling, woodworking, carpentry, and/or steam boilers and engines, applicant hired will receive additional training as needed.

Mill Operation Manager Job Description
The Mill Operations Manager is responsible for the safe operation and stewardship of Hanford Mills Museum’s unique and authentic Mill, an historic rural-industrial complex listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mill Operations Manager is a contributing member of a staff team responsible for the stewardship, preservation, operation and interpretation of Hanford Mills. The Museum is a working water- and steam-powered late 19th through early 20th century Mill complex where a flat-belt power transfer system powers an operating circular sawmill, two gristmills and several woodworking machines. The Museum’s historic site also includes 15 other historic structures situated on about 10 acres, and bordered by acres of woods and fields.

3. Assisting with the planning, coordination, implementation, and oversight of site-wide preservation and stewardship, and supervising site-wide maintenance activities.
4. A commitment to positive staff collaboration, outstanding visitor services, safe and sustainable operations, and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
