    JOB DESCRIPTION:
    Under the direction of the Museum Supervisor, the Museum Accreditation Assistant is responsible for determining the status of eligibility criteria according to the standards established by the American Alliance of Museums.  Additionally, this position will follow all necessary steps in the process to apply for first time accreditation.  These steps include preparing an application, completing a self-study, work with the Alliance selected visiting committee to schedule a visit, and completes all other necessary requirements to receive accreditation.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
     
    • Complete Core Documents Verification (a prerequisite to applying for accreditation).
    • Ensure the museum meets the criteria for accreditation eligibility.
    • Communicate to staff and governing body the Characteristics of Excellence and field-wide standards and ethics.
    • Review the costs of accreditation and ensure resources are available.
    • Select the application deadline corresponding with a review cycle that meets museum schedule.
    • Line up someone to write the Letter of Support.
    • Submit a formal application.
    • Complete a Self-Study of the museum.
    • Receive feedback from Alliance staff and respond to requests for missing/additional information.
    • Communicate with Alliance Staff/Commission to determine readiness for a site visit.
    • Review names of potential peer reviewers to serve as the Visiting Committee.
    • Coordinate with the Visiting Committee to schedule a visit.
    • Partner with the Visiting Committee during the 1.5 - 3 days visit.
    • Assists in the development and implementation of educational and interpretive museum programming.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
    Any combination equivalent to: Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's degree in history, museum studies or related field and a minimum of five (4) years of experience in museum studies or library science, ideally with concentration in collections management and demonstrated experience with and knowledge of accepted registration and collections practices and principles including inventory, collections management systems, provenance research, and object/art handling.  A Master's Degree and familiarity with AAM guidelines, collections policies, and academic collections preferred.
     
    LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    Valid Washington driver's license.
    Obtain a valid First Aid and CPR Card within the probationary period.
     
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    HOURS:
    Part-time, approximately 26 hours per week. 

    ENVIRONMENT:

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
    Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard, other office equipment and a motor vehicle.
    Standing for extended periods of time.
    Walking, kneeling, bending or crouching.
    Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations.
    Seeing to read and develop materials, prepare records and reports.
    Walking over rough or uneven surfaces during field trips.
    Ability to lift at least 10 lbs to shoulder height.
    Ability to assist individuals with mobility limitations including, but not limited, in and out of
    vehicles and up and down stairs.
     
    HAZARDS:
    Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.
    May work in close contact with wild and dangerous animals.
