Susan Reckseidler, Heritage Park Historical Village

I have been working in the museum field for over 15 years, but my passion for living history goes back to the summer days I spent as a child hanging out at the local museum down the street. In my current role of Manager, Interpretation at Heritage Park Historical Village in Calgary, Alberta, I oversee a diverse portfolio, which includes public and educational programming, costuming, agriculture, collections and exhibits. As a member of ALHFAM since the mid-90s, I find the organization’s broad appeal as being a perfect match to my wide range of interests and responsibilities. I enjoy travelling but also exploring around home with my son, who at  two years old is already a fan of “mommy’s work” and wants to drive the vintage steam train when he grows up. I’m looking forward to bringing a Western Canadian perspective to the Board of ALHFAM.

Debra Friedman, Old Sturbridge Village

I am currently Director of Public Program for Old Sturbridge Village, overseeing interpretation, museum education, visitor services and membership. I have worked for Old Sturbridge Village since 1981, first as a lead interpreter for historic foodways, later in the postion of coordinator of special events and director of interpretation.  I am the co-editor of the third edition of the Old Sturbridge Village Cookbook. My first ALHFAM conference was in 1990 and since then I have presented at several regional meetings.  Deb was an important part of the 2010 Annual Meeting Committee and made us all feel welcome to New England.

Derrick Birdsall, Farmers Branch Historical Park

I have been the Historical Park Superintendent at the Farmers Branch Historical Park since 1999.  Prior to that I worked as an interpreter and then Director of Education at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum in Huntsville, Texas.   I have a BS in Education and an MA in History.   When work allows, I spend my free time hiking, camping and photographing the West; participating in various shooting competitions across the country; or hanging out at home with my family which includes my wife and 3 dogs.
