Cost: $125

Registration and Program Packet

On-line Registration

Whether you are looking for ideas on how to have a foodways program with or without a working kitchen (Historic Cooking Guild of the Catawba Valley) or to learn about oxen and the importance of historic accuracy in your agriculture program (Ed Schultz and Wayne Randolph from Colonial Williamsburg), or anything in between, there will be something for everyone at the 2013 conference hosted by Meadow Farm Museum in Henrico (Richmond), Virginia.  Colleen Callahan, costume and textile historian and conservationist, will take you on a tour of Scotchtown, home of Patrick Henry, and discuss her conservation of an 1830 mosaic quilt.  Treading on Thin Ice (Katie Cannon), and What They Do Not Talk about in Polite Company (Meadow Farm staff) explore the uncomfortable subjects of slavery, religion, sex and other “unmentionables”. The elections are over by the time Ian Beard from the Old State House Museum presents Interpreting Politics through Living History, but politics—past, present or future--will always be part of our lives.  Dean Hardman, WVU Jackson Mill, will provide insight into the development, packaging and implementation of outreach programming.  Martha B. Katz-Hyman, independent curator,  is sure to get your attention with "In the Middle of This Poverty Some Cups and a Teapot":  The Material Culture of American SlaveryHave you ever considered interpreting insect and rodent control at your site?  These are but a few of the sessions that we have in store for you.

Do you have any items that you cannot identify?  Do you have any items that you think will stump your fellow ALHFAMers?  Dig in your collections.  Search the antique stores.  Bring them or a photograph along to the conference for some fun and enlightenment.

Don’t forget, we’d like your contribution to the silent auction.  Bring something that represents your site, your local area or just for fun.
