The Memorial Fellowship Goal for 2008-09 of $10,000 Has Been Met and Exceeded!
Dear ALHFAM members,
Lately we have lost several ALHFAM friends and supporters—Tom Brown, Jacob Conrad and George Chapman among others. When there were requests on the ALHFAM-L to establish some sort of memorial scholarship, the ALHFAM board at its November 2007 meeting voted to establish such a fund to provide a fellowship to the annual meeting. As you know, ALHFAM already funds several fellowships to the annual meeting, but the amount of funding for these is dependant on the organization’s annual budget and can fluctuate. To initiate the memorial fellowship fund, the board allocated $5,000 to a restricted account to start the ball rolling. But in order to generate enough income to fund an annual $500 fellowship we needed to have at least $10,000 in the fund. Well, as a result of the generosity of our members, and a Board matching program, which concluded at the end of 2008, we have succeeded.
Following the announcement of the matching program by the ALHFAM Board, two generous donations were received. One was made in memory of Ken Krause and David Melander, both deceased former employees at Conner Prairie. The other contribution was simply a generous donation. Martha Katz-Hyman made a donation honoring the marriages of Del and Karen Taylor and Manuel and Carol Kennis Lopez. The Memorial Fellowship Fund now stands at $12,421.03
The board asks for your continued support to expand the fund even more. Interest produced from this fund will provide an enduring and recognizable memorial to benefit our membership. The ALHFAM Memorial Fellowship Fund will provide a way for us to recognize all our deceased colleagues and enable you to donate funds in their memory. These memorial donations and their honorees will be recognized at the fellowship awards portion of the annual business meeting each year.
If you would like to contribute to the Memorial Fellowship Fund, please send your check to Judith Sheridan, Secretary/Treasurer of ALHFAM (And you can now donate on-line too) and indicate the person being memorialized. If, however, you are interested in donating for a one time scholarship in George Chapman’s memory for a New England attendee or a First Person interpreter attendee you may do so. Please send your check to Judith Sheridan, noting its intent and we will insure that the New England region or FPIPIN receives these funds.
Although we are all saddened by the loss of our colleagues, let us fondly remember and honor them by sustaining this memorial - one that is both enduring and beneficial to ALHFAM and its members.
Sincerely,
Charles LeCount
President
