Charles "Chuck" LeCount, Past-President (Term Expires June 2011)
Charles LeCount

Working in museums since 1985, my career has been all over the map, both literally and figuratively. I attended Southern Illinois University, interned at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site and joined ALHFAM and MOMCC in 1986 like many other graduating seniors who were advised to join professional organizations to help build their resumes. After finishing the HA program at Eastern Illinois University, I interned at Historic St. Mary’s City, and later, the Chester County, PA Historical Society. It was at the CHS when I attended my first ALHFAM conference—the annual meeting at Hofstra in 1988. Eventually, I settled down for five years as curator for Historic Bethlehem, PA. There, I married Sarah, my wonderful wife. When Sarah was offered a job at Old Sturbridge Village, we headed for New England where I worked at the USS Constitution Museum and later at the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities.

In 1995 I was offered an opportunity to work as curator of agriculture and industry for the North Carolina Museum of History. Two years later I became chief curator. Ultimately I realized that I wanted to return working at an historic site, so in the fall of 2001 I accepted an offer to become curator for Historic Brattonsville in South Carolina. In 2007 I accepted the position of Senior Director of Programs & Collections at Genesee Country Village & Museum and have been there since. Sarah and Chuck are the parents of Wil who is already attending regional and national ALHFAM meetings.
