ALHFAM Archives Internship Old Sturbridge Village Sturbridge, MA
Old Sturbridge Village seeks a college student or recent graduate interested in gaining direct hands-on experience archiving the records of the Association of Living History, Farm and Agricultural Museums (ALHFAM). The intern will work with ALHFAM and OSV staff. The intern will help preserve, arrange, describe, and catalog the collection, and develop finding aids. Orientation to the museum and specific training to complete the tasks will be provided. The intern will also have the opportunity to experience the workings of New England's largest outdoor history museum.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate for this internship will have a thorough understanding of archival theory, familiarity with aspects of computer sciences as they relate to archives (metadata, databases etc.) and must be extremely detail- oriented. The selection process will be competitive, with preference given to students or recent graduates with previous experience in museum studies coursework and/or working with historic objects and/or exhibits. Stipend:
In return, the intern will receive a stipend of $1,500 through the ALHFAM organization, and shared lodging (with another summer intern) on the museum campus.
Hours:
The internship is for ten weeks from June 4, 2013 – August 11, 2013. The intern will work three days a week, on a regular schedule established with the intern’s supervisor. The work day is from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The intern may opt to work additional days as a costumed historian, if so desired and opportunities exist, to expand the scope and depth of the experience.

Hickory Hill, the historic home of Senator Thomas E. Watson has an education internship available for an upcoming professional interested in archaeology, history, ecology, environmental science, and educating children. The site is owned and operated by the Watson-Brown Foundation, Inc.
Position Available: Museum Education Summer Intern, 40 hours per week. Intern will be onsite Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm.
Duration: May 28th through August 2, 2013. Dates are FIRM.
Responsibilities include: The Intern will work with the Curator & Educator to conduct 4 weeks of summer camps for local teens & tweens. Two weeks are devoted to archaeology with excavations at the Jeffersonian Publishing Plant site. Two weeks are focused on History and the Environment. The Intern will be co-teaching with the Educator, and will assist with curriculum development.
Requirements, Abilities & Skills:

Two Historic Sites Internships Homestead Prairie Farm Decatur, IL Application Deadline: March 8, 2013
Terms of positions: Two 28 week internships with start date in May. Regular work week Monday through Friday plus alternating weekend duty with compensatory time off.
Location: Homestead Prairie Farm, an 1860 living history house museum, is located on the grounds of the Rock Springs Conservation Area near Decatur, Illinois. For more information about the historic site go to: www.maconcountyconservation.org
Salary/Stipend/Housing: $8.50/hour for 40 hours per week. Interns receive a $250 monthly housing stipend. No on-site housing is available.
Duties: - Interpretation---The intern will assist in the third person interpretation of Homestead Prairie Farm. The main feature is the Trobaugh-Good House which is listed on the National Register. The duties include working with staff and volunteers to provide tours and history programs for the general public during regular weekend hours and also for schools and other groups by appointment either on-site or as outreach. There are no farm animals and no animal care duties.
- Youth Programs---The interns will co-manage one Pioneer Adventure Summer Day Camp and one Junior Pioneer Adventure Summer Day Camps. Each of the camps meet for 3 hours on a different weekday morning for 6 weeks. Each camp is limited to 12 children so camper to staff ratio is at maximum 6:1. Campers will range in age from K – 6th grade.
- Collections/Exhibits: The interns will help with traveling exhibits, assist in collections processing and inventory and with recordkeeping of reproduction period clothing worn by staff and volunteers for tours and programs.
- Research/Educational/Administrative-----The interns will assist with research projects, newsletter duties, volunteer management, special events, some housekeeping/maintenance duties for the historic site and purchasing.
