Our first "Helping Hands" project, which took place on Saturday, June 9th, was a great success! We had 11 participants who worked with Toyia Pointer, curator of the A.W. Perry Homestead in Carrollton, Texas, to number and photograph collections objects. What seemed like an insurmountable project for Toyia turned out to be very manageable for 11 pairs of hands, and, with Toyia's superb organization of the project, the CPR members finished over half of what needed to be done. Toyia is now confident that she can finish the job! After we finished at the A.W. Perry Homestead, we all went into downtown Carrollton, enjoyed a delicious lunch at Babe's Chicken Dinner House courtesy of the city's parks and recreation department, and we had time to walk around the historic downtown. And, as a special "thank you," each member of the Helping Hands team received a specially-designed T-shirt! We're already talking about a project for next year's meeting with Elmer Schultz, program chair, and Judith Sheridan, local arrangements chair, and I hope that this becomes a regular part of every annual meeting. All those interested in presenting a CPR-based session are encouraged to develop a proposal and submit it to the 2013 Program Committee by the deadline of December 1, 2012. Please contact Martha Katz-Hyman, CPR chair, with questions or comments.
