Papers consider the interpretive themes of power and energy on the farm and establishing basic interpretive programs and include Darwin Kelsey's presidential address "Historical Farms as Models of the Past," reprinted in A Living History Reader (Jay Anderson, AASLH, 1991).

National Museum of History and Technology, Washington, DC, 1975
This edition combines papers on funding, site selection, collections, and maintaining standards of excellence with papers presented at the 4th Congress of the International Association of Agricultural Museums, Reading, England, 1976.

Papers explore museums and their identity as agricultural museums, folklife museums, and living history farms.

A shift from formal papers to participatory workshops reduced the size of the Proceedings. Papers discuss agricultural museums in developing countries and the role of the curator in interpretation.

"The Right Stuff: Getting and Using It" focused on acquiring appropriate machinery and collections and translating research and material culture into effective programming. "Raise High the Roof Beam: New Dimensions on Old Foundations" elicited papers on research, collections, farming, and interpretation.

"Neighboring in Living History" includes papers on orienting visitors, staff training, evaluating programs, involving the community, maintaining collections, use of replicas, horticulture and landscape, and period clothing.
